Since my Norton a/virus ran out I have been using a trial version of Kapersky with good results has anyone had any problem with this system or preferences for any other ?

I currently use McAfee AV on this PC along with other anti Spam/firewall and AVG on the Laptop, but have been considering going over to Kapersky when the subscription to McAfee runs out, as I've only seen good comments about Kapersky I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it.

I've used AVG [free] for the last few years - backed up with Clamwin [open source].
AVG always runs in the background, but Clamwin is only an 'on demand scanner' - which is why they work well together.
I find AVG reasonably good but I try to run Clamwin at least once a week, as it seems more-in-depth at scanning for nasties..
Cheers

The new 'freebie' from AVG is available version 8 and it seems to be so uch better than version 7.5. The updates are quicker and the scan times for the whole data base are quicker too.

After using a trial of Kaspersky, I bought a 3-user licence from Scan. If I need a free virus scanner, I prefer Avast over AVG nowadays.

A less well known one that's worth considering is Nod32.
I've been using it for the last couple of years and my PC has stayed virus free. It also uses much less of your PC's resources than some other AV program's such as Norton.

Thanks for the replies, Ron I will be staying with Kapersky as i have had the trial version with out any probs and it does not slow the Pc down anything like Norton the only down side is on the full system scan which seems overly long.
Thanks for mentioning 'Scan' Ian the price looks very good, Ian if purched for three Pc's does it have to be loaded on all three units at once or can this be staged over a couple of months ? sorry if that seems a stupid question but I have not used multiple application software before.

As there is only one key supplied, I think the clock starts running when you install the first copy.

KAV is rated as among the best available, I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security since ditching Norton, overall the software is excellent, updates are very frequent and not just one a day etc, & detection rates have left my version of Norton Internet Security trailing, on the downside; KIS is more user orientated than Norton, in that pop ups frequently occur asking if you want to block or permit access to certain programmes, I find it also requires a fairly beefy pc.

The other benefit to Kaspersky is that as well as frequent updates, you also get "free" programme upgrades, i.e I bought version 6, free upgraded to version 7 & will be getting the new version in July, I don't know if Norton & McAfee give subscribers free upgrades.

I did use AVG beforehand, which is a good programme however KIS installation insisted that it be removed (compatability issue).

Superantispyware is a programme suggested to me by Kaspersky's customer support, i downloaded the free version, there's also a link in Superanti's software that carries out a process check, looking at what's going on in your system (what programmes are running & if friend or foe).

I have been running KAV for about six months now, and have found it excellent.

More worrying is that Norton had not found a dozen or so infected files that had been on my machine for at least a year!

I have recently installed it on a friends new Dell machine that had become seriously infected. The bundled McAfee anto virus was little better than useless IMHO, and had been disabled by a virus, hence allowing yet more infections. KAV found a total of 243 infected files and adware programmes that McAfee had let through.

From the reviews that I have read, KAV is reckoned to be about the best there is, whilst McAfee is rated even worse than Norton. And guess which AV packages are sold by PC World and Co?

I havent used Norton for a few year after it let a virus through and totally banjaxed my system.

I now use, very succesfully, AVG 8
