... Mississauga, ON– May 22, 2008 PENTAX Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the new PENTAX Optio W60 compact digital camera. Featuring one of the lightest designs in a waterproof camera, the Optio W60 is equipped with a newly developed 28mm wide-angle optical 5X zoom lens, a 10 effective megapixel CCD, and enhanced waterproofing performance that will allow shooting for up to 2 hours at an underwater depth of up to four meters. In addition, the Optio W60 can operate in temperatures as cold as –10°C, making it an ideal companion for any outdoor activity, whether in the water or on the slopes. The Optio W60 will be available in Canada July 2008 at an estimated retail price of $349.99. [/color
Seems like a perfect little carry around camera and I apologise for it not being a new DSLR
Cheers,
Jack

I thought I read somwhere that Pentax were pulling out of the compact market? - though TBH I also thought it seemed rather unlikely...

Hi nigel and david,
this camera will definitely be for general release and, in Canada, is due for release this July -- no specific date, of course -- ... and here is some information on the camera from a (somewhat) suspicious source ... relative to me, of course
Cheers,
Jack

Yes, very dodgy. Didn't believe a word of it!
What size is the sensor? I saw somewhere someone suggested a 4/3rds sensor ina compact would be a great idea. I wonder if 'Oly' has thought of that as well?

Hi David,
I believe it is the same size sensor as most of the Compact Digital Camera's ...and I can't say I have heard of the "4/3 sensor" for the compact digitals
Cheers,
Jack
