I have recently installed new antivirus / firewall software, and being a newbi to the elecronic world, with an immense amount to learn, I was wondering about certain websites (this one included) - every time I go to Computer Actives site, my antivirus informs me that it has detected "spyware" with the name Adtech. I also get similar on my ISP's site, although its a different name eg Advertising. Most of the other sites that I usually visit, nothing is detected. Just wondering if any of you kind people have noticed it either, and what your comments / observations are. Still a brilliant site though. Best wishes, Bob.

Hi, Its Panda antivirus / Firewall 2008 - other than what I mentioned it appears to be fine. PS. When I said Computeractive, it should have read AP, Thanks, Bob.

That will be a tracking cookie (a small text file used by a website to identify previous visitors).
In all honesty Cookies are completely benign in their existence, they can however be used in slightly nefarious ways. There are far bigger things to worry about!
What's worse though is that most AV tools throw up a big red alert the second they spot one. Which is great considering they're probably missing something like 50% of current malware. I guess if you can't find the real threats you should shout about the ones you can find!
I'll certainly not hide the fact that I work for a UK Anti-malware company and If I can be of assistance just give me a shout (I wouldn't want to be accused of trying to gain free advertising when offering a free license key for our product like I was on another tog forum).

wouldn't recommend the inbuilt firewall tbh, when I got my pc, by the time I'd gone onto the web to get [at the time] Zonealarm, I'd picked up a virus and had to system restore to the out of the box day [Norton hadn't intercepted / detected it]
Anyway, even now that I've got a hardware firewall [router] I still have Comodo on the pc, so I can see what's coming / going...
Mind you, I am on the home edition of XP, so hopefully Pro has something better

Sorry to take advantage but do you know about 'registrycleanerxp.com' (that may be wrong because it's being reported to me by a friend in France). It's bugging the life out of her.
I've googled and it seems to be something related to a trojan but the sites I've found might themselves be a bit dodgy. Any advice please?
