Would be nice to know its been received by the right people.
Sent Mod 1 in on 28/04/08 according to Royal Mail it was signed for on the 30th. It's now the 15th May - just wondering how long it takes to get results back.
The proof of delivery slip you can now view on the Royal Mail website is actually useless - no signature, and No 24 (Twenty Four)printed on receipt.

I'd suggest contacting Elliot Smith.
I find that the modules are usually turned around in two to three weeks.

Not sure how the tutors would feel but perhaps if students who wanted confirmation included a stamped, self-addressed postcard/sealed envelope with their submission then they or the course administrator could pop it into the post box?
Just a thought ...

Or a quick PM or email to confirm reciept would be suffice.
A PM or email to state that the module is being returned would also be nice as the last two modules I've had returned there has been nobody at home to sign for it. So I've had to wander down to the post office to collect it...

The problem is even if you are told it is being returned as you have no control over that date you cannot gurantee being able to be at home when it is actually delivered so I am not sure you gain much. One has the same problem with internet orders except you can control those as you can place an order for next day delivery for a day you know someone will be available ( or pay a premium for a particular time span!). On the whole the system seems to work well as modules are returned by recorded delivery, which is pretty secure, and it is just unfortunate if you have to collect it. That's better than it going astray.

My course package and both of my returned modules have been returned "recorded guaranteed next day delivery".
A PM would let me ensure that someone was at home to sign for it.

Hi, until recently I also worked for another distance learning organisation, one with charitable status to boot, that indeed provided many of the confirmations you suggest because they had a huge admin team, a head office and a lot of paperwork (the main reason I'm not still working for them!) Trouble was their courses had half the number of modules as ours and cost very nearly twice as much.
We have Elliot - he's brilliant, part time and we work him, oh we work him! With the number of students we have a quick email is more like sixty quick emails, a few letters - because everyone is not on email or email accounts are dead, a few telephone calls and well, as anyone who has tried to do this sort of thing knows, it can turn into a days work.
We could have the tutors do it but you know who they are and how busy they are - so again we would have to employ tutors who are nothing other than tutors who had lots of time to send emails and post off cards - but then you wouldn't get Barney, Angela, Scott from WDC and me.
So bear with us, we'll in time hopefully develop a method that doesn't eat up precious resources and in the meantime we'll try to make the right compromises as compromises always have to be made.
If you've not had your assignment back inside three weeks then do give Elliot a call and he'll give you the status - which is most probably on my desk at the mo!

Thanks Garry, I did realise all of waht you are saying, I felt that a quick method of acknowledging reciept by Tutor would be
for example in the Self assessment, which is in Word doc or rtf format, if the email address was included (it becomes a link to click on in that document), it would not take too many seconds to click on it, email address is already filled in, tutor could quite simply say " Got it".
No need to go into anything other, obviously student would have to understand that this would be the only email correspondence, and no further email correspondence would be gone into.
Hope I haven't rambled on too much - at the minute looks like Elliot will be getting some coreespondence from me next week if not turned up by Wednesday

Just logged in to the forum after a few weeks away and I am pleased to see that i am not the only one fretting about the "have they or have they not" recieved my submission? and "why" does it take so long to get it back? I have to date submitted 3 modules and each one has taken about 3-4 weeks to be returned, except this one, which is now into the 5th week and still no sign of it I dont even know if the tutor has received it which is the worrying point. We are given 24 months to complete this diploma course, and at this rate its going to take 50 weeks for the tutor to mark and return the modules, So bang goes my idea of getting through it in twelve months! It has to be said that this really is a poor show! good luck every one.

There has to be a better way - I am told that mine should be back with me next week - that will be 4 weeks from sending it in.
Only way to keep in touch with timetable seems to be to do other modules before getting reults from the submitted module.

Thats is what I have done, but that does not allow time to re-visit the last module if you have not got it right.

Hello folks,
This seems strange. I compeleted the Intro to dig. imaging course and am now onto the foundation in photography course, I have never waited more than two weeks for the return of a module - that`s 12 so far!
Maybe the uptake of courses is increasing, i.e. more students. If so may be Elliot has grounds for increasing his hours... good for Elliot, good for everyone else!

Hi, that does seem an awfully long time.
Normally it goes like this...
You send your module to Elliot and he sends them out twice a week to tutors - next day postage, the tutors are contracted to complete them within 10 days and return next day delivery after which Elliot will mail them back out twice a week. I had a bunch arrive at 7.30 this morning, they will marked today and sent out on Monday morning and probably received back by students late next week.
The only real variable there then is the tutor's allotted students all sending in a module that week so they are completely snowed under.
Three weeks should be a maximum for return and you should contact Elliot after that period.
If you have had to wait a very long time for a module to be returned then of course Elliot will make a note of that and add it to the course time on his database there will be times when you tutor is on holiday (except me 1997 I think my last holiday was dont worry I hate holidays!), or sick or dealing with the odd student (very odd student) who sends the whole course in at once!

Elliot normally sends modules back via Special Delivery which promises next day delivery, I presume he would have sent out on Tuesday if he suggested it would arrive on Wednesday. I've yet to have a problem with this service so hopefully it will arrive today or Elliot can track the parcel on Monday morning.

I've just got my Module 4 back. However, the postman cant deliver the large package Elliot(and Laura used to) puts them in. Its far too big for the letterbox. I have mentioned this before but if you aren't in, the postman will leave notice to have it collected. This is daft as when I send it to be marked I can post it in a small padded envelope. I cant see the need to post the return in such a large packet! Just put you comments on the memory stick (which you do anyway).

Hi Pete, Elliot's off sick at the mo but I will mention it - I have a shed full of them! I'm pretty sure Elliot sends stuff back Special Delivery so you would need to sign for it even if it was smaller - I know my postman very well!
A supply of smaller envelopes then!
