All committed Olympians, but what other cameras do you own?
      #649383 - 29/04/2008 14:50

I've only really got into photography since my daughter was born just under two years ago, I was looking to buy a decent camera to record her growing up, and after looking at Bridge cameras it became clear I could get a DSLR for not much more. I ended up with the Olympus E-500 twin lens kit after considering the Nikon D50, Canon EOS300d and the Pentax *ist.

Since then I've upgraded to the E-510 twin lens kit, I have also bought a Metz flashgun (44af4) and the sigma 30mm f/1.4.

I also 'discovered' the joys of camera/lens buying on eBay about 18 months ago, and have bought (and sold various cameras), many of which I have either turned a small profit of at least recouped my initial outlay + fees.

In this time I've owned :-

Olympus OM10 + 50mm +manual adapter (sold)
Olympus 35RC - no meter but fixed and a great little rangefinder.
Olympus 35RC - No meter, and could not fix - sold.
Olympus 35RD - Broken and due to be looked into.

Canon EOS300V
Canon EOS5 - Broken command dial - fixed and sold for 100% profit
Canon EOS5 - Same as above, not yet fixed and I'll probably keep it anyway as a great camera.
Canon EOS1000f - very basic but came with a Sigma 28-200mm lens I fancied.

I do like the Canon film cameras,.
.

Nick

Well, at the risk of SWMBO spotting this post:

Olympus E1 with 14 ~ 54 zoom (and others) used for my day job.

Spare E1 body (useful as I dropped No 1 recently)

Canon PowerShot G9 (also used in my day job)

Olympus OM4Ti (still in very regular use);

Olympus OM2 Sp (mounted on a Nikon microscope);

Mamiya 645 Pro TL (in even more regular use);

Spare Mamiya 645 Pro body

Kodak Retina 1a which comes out on occasions.

I fancy a go at Mediam format, but it's a bit out of the range of my sub £50 eBay budget. Maybe one day!

Can I plead the Fifth?

Current Olys:

OM1n and OM2n (I've sold the OM4 and OM10, both at modest profits)
Camedia 3000Z
XA
XA-2
Mju II
Pen EE-2

and I really can't list all the other brands!

I used an EOS 5 for some years - the dial has never broken on mine, and yes, it's a great camera - but it's mighty BIG compared to an OM. I've used it once this year, which is less than I've used the OMs.

I like the size of the EOS5, especially with the VG10 grip. It's not a camera I would carry around a lot but I do liek the heft of it compared to the e-510 and the EOS300v

the 300v is a great little camera, I generally keep the 50mm on it and it is small enough to squeeze in my camera bag with the E510. I only use it with HP5.

I need to sell some cameras to fund a lens, I'll keep obne film camera and it's a toss up between the 300v and the EOS5, I like them both but the money will go towards a lens I'll use a lot more often.

Ensign Ranger Special folder. Crowds gather when I set it up.
OM10
OM2n (they'll have to bury me with this, no way would I let it go...)
Pen EE
and...
Halina x35, will be used as a knuckleduster if we ever get burgled, also takes pictures.
Centon K100, flaky, but hasn't fallen to bits yet.
Cosina CTg, can't make up my mind if I like it or not.
Zorki 4k, come the Revolution we'll all have one of these. Shutter spring is a bit Russian, you get recoil bruises shooting with it.
Zenit. 82% - relatively speaking of course - and when tested against Nikon's F6 and the E420 that might change :-)

Well, I am far from a committed Olympus user though my dSLR is an e510, but I do have a home assembled Olympus stereo camera made up from an XA2 and XA3 with a tiny bit of electronics to synchronise operation.

Otherwise, apart from the "collection" of odd old cameras, in active use I have Leica M6 and Ricoh GR1.

I am getting to grips with a Mamiya 645 and enjoying the quality of the prints from it. The only reason I have one is that Olympus didn't make the move to medium format.

Well if you really want here is (most) of the contents of my top shelf. Three of them I inherited, and yes they do seem to include an awful lot of Canons!

Which finder do you use?

I have the AE finder which provides very accurate metering, (even for Velvia), but I much prefer to take it off and use the Waist Level finder (with the magnifier popped up).
