Well I am back in good old uni in Egham and need something to fill the time once the exams are over - and so I was wondering if anyone could recomend any wildlife parks/reserves which are not too far out and which can be accessed by public transport (I can use a cabby for shortish distances only - cost)
I once made the long trip all the way up to Whipsnade, but that is a might bit far to go at times.
With the kit I have its mostly small zoos/parks that I am after, as I have nothing really long enough which I can use on (for example) a RSPB reserve in a hide.
Anyone got any ideas?

Not that familiar with London sites, but there's the WWT - London or there's the British Wildlife Centre but that's south London. I've not been to the WWT London, but based on the WWT in Wales you won't be disappointed. I've been to the British Wildlife Centre a couple of times and it's excellent.

I'm a member of WWT and visit The London Wetlands Centre often. It is well worth a visit. I see from your weblog that you are like to photograph wetlands wildfowl. The Barnes centre has plenty of options to photograph ducks, geese, swans etc. without the need for very long lenses. They do, of course, also provide plenty of hides and they are all close to the water so you can often get decent pics with medium telephotos.
How about Richmond Park? Lots of deer there.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will certainly check them out!
I tried deer once before - way to far off to catch - and at this time of the year all full of people and dogs -- I will need a cold snap to get the deer within sight I think 
though definatly a place to check out later this year!

Not at all. If you walk into the park you'll soon find yourself on your own. Most people tend to walk between the Richmond and Kingston Gates or around the Isabelle Plantation. There's plenty opportunity to see deer with nothing but countryside in the background and they come right up to the roads. Just get there early in the morning for the best light and beware during rutting.

I agree with both suggestions. We went to the Barnes Wetland Centre for the first time a couple of weekends ago and really enjoyed it. You even forget you're in West London for the day.
