I've just been having a go at the grey card part of module 2, I set my D80 to manual, chose a mid aperture and 1/60th of a second and corrected the exposure with ISO, When I zoomed my 18 -135 kit lens in to the grey card to fill the frame I noticed quite a strong vignette appear. In PS I get a unit value of between 103 - 125 for a mid grey when measuring from corner to center. Is this normal for a kit lens or is there a problem with ether lens or camera.

The learning curve is so steep I keep falling off.

I would have thought that Vignetting would only occur when you zoom to a wider focal length.

The vignette definitely gets worse at the telephoto end.

I had a similar problem with my 18-200mm. Try stopping down to F11(ish) I eventually carried out the module using a 50mm F1.8 prime lens which is of a much higher quality than either of our zooms.

Well I suppose this test shows a low quality lens for what it is, unfortunately I only have a Nikon 18 - 135 and a sigma 10 - 20. I will press on regardless.

I used a Nikon 105mm VR micro for this test. Think you will find it easier to fill the card with a longer lens rather than wide angle and 18-135 should be fine at longer end. I have a Sigma 10- 20 and reckon it is a great wide angle lens. Peter
