Hi,
I was playing around with 50-135mm lens tonight and noticed that the focusing seems to be making considerably more noise than it did when I 1st got it. Infact when I 1st used it I was amazed at the near silence of the motor when focusing.
It now sounds like my Sigma 17-70mm which makes a fair old racket. Also when the focusing reaches its maximum at either end it makes a horrble grinding noise! Its weird because it must have happened gradually as I havnt noticed until now.
Has anyone experienced this? Im not sure if I should send it back to be fixed or replaced given its such an expensive piece of kit, any advice would be great.
Thanks

I think you answered your own question...
No motor, ultrasonic or not, should ever make grinding noises.... If it's under warranty it should be fixed or replaced provided it's a manufacturing fault. Even if it's out of warranty and it's failed through poor manufacture you could still have a case under the 'fit for purpose' clauses of the Sale of Goods Act... Don't let them fob you off with the usual "you broke it" response either...

How long have you had it Tom? Have had mine 3 moths now, with a fair amount of use and if anything it seems quieter, and not the slightest grinding at any point.
I think it should go back to Pentax, these arn`t cheep lenses. It is worying, Keep us posted Tom and I hope you get it repaired without hassle
Regards
John.

Thanks both I have been in touch with Pentax and there is no problem with sending the camera to them for repair, its a bit of a hassle though and will cost a small fortune (which Pentax will cover). Plus Im not sure how long it will take! Hopefully it will come back as good as new

Was the AF switched on on the lens barrel?
If the lens makes the same noise as the Sigma lens then could it be your are using the body AF to focus the lens???
On my 16-50 my AF is so quiet I am never sure whether it's working or not...
