Any Steam Railway photographers heading for South Devon will be in for a treat because within about 3 miles on the Paignton and Dartmouth there are beach and viaduct locations to die for.

That certainly is a great line - superb scenery that it runs along! Took this with a little 35mm compact about 8 years ago:
...really could do with rescanning that using my Epson V700 though.

We were dropping off SWMBO's sister (visiting from Oz) at Perth railway station last week, for her journey to Kyle of Lochalsh. The ticket clerk informed us that the usual platform had changed as a steam train was due to arrive. While waiting the arrival of the train, in pulled the Class A4 Pacific 60009 'Union of South Africa' - hauling a single passenger carraige - is the 'magic' of steam diminishing?

This would be a movement of the locomotive plus support coach before or after a charter train. Most steam locomotives move around in this way between charters.

Cheers for that Nimbus, I thought it a bit strange. Most Scottish charters start in Edinburgh or Glasgow and head for either Fort William or Kyle of Lochalsh. 60009 was in reverse with the single coach tethered to the front of the engine.
