At the moment... ??
Thought I would start a new thread as I am bored and need to get some thoughts together on my next module...
I am on Module 2 - and having terrible time thinking about what to do.. I keep hoping it will come to me but it hasn't yet...

Think the new thread is a good idea. I am still no nearer to getting this sorted. As I had a free afternoon yesterday - tried a couple of ideas but nothing seemed to work. Perhaps we are trying too hard?!! I don't think I will use the spinning jenny shot as there is a fair amount of noise on it due to low light conditions/high ISO & I think I will get pulled up on this. We don't seem to be hearing from anyone who started this course before us - there must be others out there!

Have you tried taking the photo on a tripod with a lower ISO and slower shutter speed Jude?
If not have you tried noise reducing software? I have used Noise Ninja to good effect in the past.
Edit: I've just taken a quick look at the image and it has quite a bit of noise for ISO 400. I also note you have Exposure Bias set at -2/3 EV, can I ask why?

Hi Gary - thanks for your reponse & comments - much appreciated. I did in fact use a tripod as the idea of the excercise was to take 2 aperture extremes of the same scene - hence tripod definately needed for f22! This was a Nat Trust owned mill & I had to get permission from the NT to photograph there - in all fairness they were extremely helpful but as they let me behind the barriers I had to have a NT chappie with me & to say he could talk for England was an understatement. I found it really difficult to concentrate on what I was doing as I must have had his entire life history at last twice. But as I remember, I was also taking some hand held shots & whilst the lighting was poor, there was also a lot of light from a nearby window which was burning out highlights - hence the exposure compensation. So I think I must have forgotten to change the ISO & whether the EV correction was right I don't know - I did check the histogram occasionally!! I would love to go back there but have time on my own - but I think that I would be somewhat cheeky to trouble them again & anyway I couldn't stand life history mark 3. But anyway I have to be pragmatic & think of it as a learning curve - I enjoyed the experience & the wonderful smell of the old machinary - but I am going to abandon this shot.
How did your drops of water go? Have just been reading your "all fed up" thread & it seems to be summing up what us 3 are going thro' at the moment. I think Scott's comments should be well heeded!!
Or perhaps it's all an April fool!!
Jude

I ran your image through the Noise Ninja and it tidied it up a bit, but not as much as I thought it would (I did only do it on the default settings with some minor tweaking tho ).
I know how difficult it is when someone is looking over your shoulder when you're trying to do something. You always feel that you're holding them up (I get it in my job as well... ).
As you've now explained it I can understand why you are hesitant to go back to try to take more photos. Its still an excellent subject for your module though....
The dripping tap went well (images on my flickr site) and it was fun experimenting with the flash and quality street wrappers to get different colour effects. My findings are as follows:
Strawberry wrappers are too dark red and totally obscure the image. Coconut wrappers are a nice shade of blue and create a nice cold colour. The new milk choc block wrappers are an excellent shade of green. Finally the orange creme wrapper creates a nice orange glow to the image.
Comments are welcomed.

Mooched in local woods today - another week until bluebells & wild garlic are in their prime. Wood anemones & marsh marigolds OK though. Took some shots I think are going to be OK except lighting not good enough. Intend to return perhaps Fri am if weather alright - anxious to get this one in the bag. Enjoy Rome Deb - lucky you!
