I have a 1939 Fed 1 - Leica copy - with its black Vulcanite covering faded to brownish grey. Has anyone successfully brought Vulcanite back to black ? Is vulcanite a rubber derivative and if so is there any solvent to remove the faded outer "skin" - or even a paint for rubber that might do the trick. I am reluctant to replace the vulcanite because it is unworn and original.

I have to admit that I rather like the much used/loved look of the faded vulcanite on my even older (1933) Leica IIIa. I don't think I'd replace it if I could. I'm just wierd I guess.

That is as comprehensive advice as I am likely to get on this subject - thanks very much indeed.
