Garry McNamara’s Critical Eye
      #507765 - 09/07/2007 15:50

Don’t forget that if you would like to get feedback on your images between assignments a fun way to do it is to send them into Garry McNamara’s Critical Eye.

You can send up to six prints, slides or images on CD (please include the original files from the camera along with your submitted versions on your CD). Tell us a little about the pictures and, if you can, include details of equipment used and exposure settings. Please enclose an SAE if you would like them returned.

The address to send them too is…

Maybe its the term 'critical' that puts people off. While we all know that criticism can be positive or negative; the term, for most people, implies negative criticism.

So, why not just 'Garry McNamara’s Eye' or 'Garry McNamara’s Professional Eye'. Such an approach might encourage more people to submit their images for review and professional feedback.

Just a suggestion, no intention to insult anyones integrity.

No it's not you Mark - it was Garry's comment which produced a LDB

Don't be scared of Garry - he's a very nice guy, he has to be; the poor soul has suffered as my tutor for 9 modules & he's still got N° 10 to come!!
Seriously though - I'm convinced (he may not be) that thanks to him my photography has improved & I'm certainly enjoying it a lot more.
So have a go - he may criticize but I guarantee his criticisms will be positive.

Hello Euro - it's very nice to hear from you. I'm only just starting to put stuff on the Appraisal Forum - give me another year and I might consider sending Garry some photos to peruse. Lisa.

Hi Euro, great to hear from someone who's nearly finished.
How have you found the course? Do you have your course pics online anywhere?

I'm in the process of selecting some pics to send to Gary's column - just need to pluck up the courage to send them in!

How have I found the course? Honestly I've found it good!!
That doesn't mean that I agreed with everything - in particular I "blew-up" on Module 5 & said that it was like trying to kill a fly by using a steam-roller. But that was rapidly sorted out & although there are certain points where I think that the line "Study - practice - produce" was mislaid,on the whole I'm very happy because I learned a great deal & it provided me with the discipline that I badly need (basically I'm a lazy sod).
Just for the record I pay about 50% more than you guys because I live on the other side of "La Manche" (thereby EURO) & if it hadn't been good I would have howled blue murder.
Clearly SPI also found that things needed changing - therefore they have "updated" the course & good for them & for the future students.
Course pics? No I've only sent them to Garry & his comments have always been welcome. However - to put my money where my mouth is - when I've completed Mod 10, Garry can put any of them into his column ( if HE wants to, HE's the boss) and comment on them - over to you Garry.
A bit longwinded as an answer - sorry, but I hope it helps a bit Have fun!
