Hi Nick,
Too bad the shutter system on the Contaflex TLR was of a bad design...otherwise it would have been a marvelous camera when working. Really beautiful camera, like eveything else out of Germany it's over engineered. I give my rating 9.5/10 for historical value but still nowhere near a Rolleiflex.
Cheers, Simon

Which is also out of Germany of course, as are Leica. I'd certainly agree that many Zeiss cameras were over-engineered in the past, but its unfair to label everything German as such.

That is true David, the camera is made to Zeiss specs. but I won't shell out that kind of cash on a new film camera, with the same amount as a M6 with lens...my choice is most definitely Leica M-6 used.
Other people may prefer a new Ford over a secondhand Mercedes...

Hi David,
Very true statement,it's like new cameras vs. classic cameras. Classic cameras are great for what they are, new cameras are great for what they can do.

It's nice - very nice - but not a patch on this one.
Just a shame it has a teensy drawback, then. I quote from the website:
But as a instrument for making photographs, it is miserable.

Well, the new Zeiss Ikon rangefinder is a product of Carl Zeiss and not a product of Cosina. You will not find Cosina's name on any literature, lens or bodies, boxes or manuals.
Cosina is simply the contract manufacturer.
It was a mistake for Zeiss to mention that Cosina is the manufacturer. There are routine and incorrect statements that this is a Cosina product, a rebadged Cosina, a camera with Cosina parts, etc.

Nonsense. Much better to be upfront about it. Any likely customer has enough sense to know that Cosina is perfectly capable - anyone who doesn't isn't likely to be in the market. Trying to hide it would lead to MUCH worse in the long run.
