What Walkaround lens ?
I am quite new to all of this and i am looking for some advice on what all round lens to get to replace the 18-55 one i got with my canon eos1000d.
I want a better zoom and quite fastish shutter speed but something thats good with landscapes wildlife etc.Hope anyone can help because i dont even know where to start.
It's worth taking a look at Canon's list of lenses: http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...nses/index.asp

The main 'problem' you may encounter when moving to a faster lens is that you'll need more money too. Also, a larger aperture means larger front glass - so the lens is likely to get heavier and longer as you move up the ranks too; not always idea for walking around with unless you have a decent bag to avoid clunking against walls and the like when wandering.
Furthermore, longer zoom lenses will mean that it's harder to keep images steady. Indeed at 200mm (that's 320mm in 35mm terms on your Canon) you're going to struggle more to keep things steady... unless you invest in an 'IS' (Image Stabilised) lens (this technology moves the elements continuously to counter handshake). It's great technology, but it'll increase your bill.
All things weighed up, here's how things tend to increment:
The 55-200mm f4.5-5.6 IS is RRP £330 (Cuts off the 18mm wide end if you find you never use it): http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...6_IS/index.asp
The 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS is RRP £560 (probably the front runner in terms of what to look for and Bristol Cameras have it in stock for £330: http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ca...f-s-lens.htm): http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...6_IS/index.asp
The 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS is RRP £740 (can find this for £420 online): http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...6_IS/index.asp
The 70-200mm f/2.8 is RRP £1540 (if money's no contest, though it's big and may be a bit much to casually wander around with): http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod..._USM/index.asp
Don't forget third party manufacturers too which often produces lenses of equal if not better quality than the big names and usually costing a fair bit less too.
