Can't decide between them! If you've got any other suggestions for pics which should have made it by all means post the links below (even if they're yours).
Isolating an overall favourite is tricky. Such a wide variety of subjects shot at very different times and for wholly different purposes.
Nick Brandt's 'Elephant With Exploding Dust' is an incredible square black and white frame however: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilcptop...7623774840478/
There's not much information surrounding it on the Flickr page, but it's just incredibly striking, captured at the right moment with great composition.
Comparing that to William Ander's stunning NASA 'Earth Rise' picture is next to impossible though. Talk about the right place at the right time!: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilcptop...7623774840478/
In terms of a single stand-out image, I have to say that my preference goes to David Doubilet's black and white image of three stringrays -
There's something otherworldly about it, and the balance in exposure between above and below the water is stunning.
With regards to what the collection stands for (as well as being an amazing photograph), I'm also a fan of Peter Dombrovskis' Rock Island Bend capture -
To use the power of photography to preserve something you believe in is quite an achievement.
Some stunning shots - the leaping wolf, stingrays, dust covered elephant, and the lion in a dust storm really stand out for me
