Module 2 vignetting

I've just been having a go at the grey card part of module 2, I set my D80 to manual, chose a mid aperture and 1/60th of a second and corrected the exposure with ISO, When I zoomed my 18 -135 kit lens in to the grey card to fill the frame I noticed quite a strong vignette appear. In PS I get a unit value of between 103 - 125 for a mid grey when measuring from corner to center. Is this normal for a kit lens or is there a problem with ether lens or camera.
