Thank u both for your replies.Please excuse my stupidity. Replying when tired and brain not in gear is not a good idea!
of course when you open the aperture the shutter speed will lessen.
I will have to play around with it more and have a go with the aperture priority function.
I will have a look at GIMP. thank you for your advice.
