Re: photojournalism portfolio

Hi,

Here is my new portfolio. Do you think it is a good selection of work to send to send to newspapers when applying for photojournalism internships? Are there any that you would leave out?

Thanx for your help

Hi Tom,

Firstly, you definitely have a "attention grabbing" subject matter in your "Flickr portfolio" but, IMHO,
the photo's should be placed in separate groups, according to subject matter -- photo stories; portraits (editorial or otherwise); -- and, as well, most newspapers when looking for photographers
want to see a collection of sports, spot news, stand-up/feature, entertaintment and studio/environmental portraiture (w/and w/o lighting).

Also, I would recommend you check out this site: The British Press Photographers Association -- BPPA and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to join up and/or
browse through some of the 'member's galleries' to get an idea of what 'working PJ's' portfolios
are looking like

FWIW, when I mention grouping photo's together (kind of like an photo story/essay); here is
an example ...of what I mean (and I hope it makes sense to you). It is a selection of photo's I took of the arrest of an "environmental activist" here in Vancouver several years ago

I don't this will help much ...but I do think that hooking up with the BPPA will help you immensely

Cheers and all the best in your PJ career.
