Quote: Both can be used on your 400D, but only EF lenses can be used on full-frame cameras (i.e. 5D, 1D, 1Ds). EF-S lenses are designed for APS-C sized sensors (smaller than full-frame) and thus cannot be used on full-frame cameras because they can't cover all of a full-frame sensor. Some people (myself included) try, where cost permits, to avoid EF-S lenses because if you ever upgrade to a full-frame body, they'd be pretty much useless. However, if you don't have such ambitions, there's nothing "wrong" with buying an EF-S lens... there are still some high-quality EF-S lenses to choose from. They also tend to be more compact and light-weight if that interests you. |
