OK so I'm dumb and didn't read the manual fully. 
I've just discovered that my K-M 7D has an interval shooting mode. It will shoot pretty well as many pictures as you want, one after the other at preset intervals.
I'm posting in the Sony room because I guess that the Sony line will be the same and I'm betting that I'm not the only one.
I'll be having a play later today.
