I going down to Cornwall for a week late Sept close to Bude, does anyone have any recommendations of places to visit that would be worth a look?

The beaches are great for photographing surfers, at any time of day.
This (sorry about the small image) was taken near dusk.

I was in this area just last week. Pretty much anywhere is photogenic but here are a few suggestions:
Morwenstow - it's a bit of a walk to the cliffs but worth it and the cream teas at the Old Rectory are the best in Cornwall, perhaps the world. There's an interesting old church here too.
Crackington Haven for some great views of geological phenomena in the cliffs, plus a nice little beach and easy access to the coastal path. The café on the left as you enter the car park is very good too.
Port Isaac - famous for being the filming location for Doc Martin; a bit touristy but worth a visit. The beach car park is literally that - parking on the beach. You will have to battle down a narrow road and park with the waves almost lapping your tyres but it saves a walk from the top car park (we had a child in a buggy and didn't fancy it!)
Tintagel of course.
Trebarwith Strand - another cliff/beach interface but this one with a great pub overlooking it (the Port William). Beware that the drive from here to Port Isaac is along the narrowest and steepest road I have ever driven!
Tamar Otter Sanctuary - the animals are captive but still photogenic and there's a nice but short nature trail with deer, wallabies and owls.
Widemouth Bay - a huge beach and the road from here towards the south goes up the cliffs and offers a magnificent view back on the bay.
Any surfing beach will offer great action shots with the right lens - I caught a kite surfer at Black Rock beach and was happy with the results (100-300mm lens).
The Eden project is 1 hour's drive across Bodmin Moor and well worth the visit if you haven't been and like that sort of thing. Don't dismiss it as a bad weather thing to do either - it comes to life in the sun.
Bodmin Moor is littered with opportunities.
Boscastle was OK - very busy though.
