A number of factual errors, it's not an SLR and an M8 doesn't cost £1700... I wish!
Oh, and the bubblehead behind the Digilux 2 is not Kate, it's Posh.

True, but is God's camera an M8? The inscription certainly isn't clear enough to be positive.

I think we can be certain it's an M8 because if was an M7, he wouldn't have realised he'd left his lens cap on until the film came back from the chemist. You see, Tim, digital does have some advantages.
The lens is an APO Summicron-M 1:2/90 ASPH by the way...

Depends how much notice he took of the meter read-out, if it were an M7. It's not, though - it might not be clear, but no way does that say 7.

Been there, done that and so, I'm willing to bet, has everyone else when they first started using rangefinders

You can also clearly see the ambient light sensor at 10 o'clock to the red dot, so definitely an M8...

there were some other photos of this in one of the other newspapers (possibly the Sun), you could clearly see the "M8" on the camera in those images.

Not with my Canonet: lens cap left on? Shutter won't fire if underexposure would result, at least in auto.
Also cost me approximately 1/3000 of the price of a Leica.

Yep, the ambient sensor clinches it, but your previous answer Mark isn't true, as the meter lights would have flashed. It's obviously been a while since you used your film body.

mine wont fire either and I get message subject too dark (nikon D40X). I did it once, had cap on when I thought I'd taken it off! Whats so special about the M8 anyway....

In what way is the D40x a rangefinder? If you can't tell you've got the lenscap on on an SLR, you ARE in trouble!

Yep. That's also why it is such an easy mistake to make when you first start out with rangefinders after using SLRs. You are too used to assuming that the cap is off if you can see through the viewfinder.

This is going to be weird, defending GWB... Aren't they image intensifying binos? In daylight they need the lens cap left on with a tiny hole in it to allow just enough light in...
