Amateur Photographer & What Digital Camera: Avatars

As most of you will already know there are a few 'kinks' in the forum software. One of these involves the changing of Avatars. Or rather the inability to change them!

We do have a work around for this problem, but you will need you own webspace or online storage.

Unfortunately places like Flickr and 110mb and public hosting sites won't work as you need a unique name for your avatar.

Now, most ISPs will provide you with some space free of charge so you should be okay.

So... The Solution

STEP 01
Create your avatar 80x80px and save it with the name "AP-Avatar.JPG"

STEP 02
Upload it to your web host (via FTP)

STEP 03
Test that it has uploaded correctly and copy the URL to the file. For example, the URL may look like this: http://www.jenfis.co.uk/avatars/AP-Avatar.JPG

STEP 04
Send a PM to one of the Moderators requesting a change of Avatar. Copy the URL for your new Avatar into the PM.

STEP 05
The Moderator will edit your profile and enter the URL for your avatar.

STEP 06
You will receive a PM from the Moderator saying that the change has been done or if there is a problem with the Avatar.

Once this has been done, if you ever want to change your Avatar, all you have to do is make a new Avatar and overwrite the existing one on your webspace.

PLEASE NOTE: There are a lot of members here and only a few Moderators. They don't want to be swamped by people all suddenly requesting Avatar changes! If you have requested a change, please be patient.
