I know I asked this question before, but as it was 18 months ago I wanted to see if anything has changed - and if it has I'd like to know why.
When I asked 'Do you mostly shoot raw, JPEG or both at the same time?' in early 2007 48% said they shot raw, 33% said JPEG and 19% said they shot the two file types simultaneously.
What do you do now? And if you used to do one thing, but now do another, let us know what made you change.
Head to the Home Page to vote.
Thanks for taking part.
Damien

FILM!
When I shoot digital I shoot RAW. I don't see a great deal of point in shooting JPEG if I'm going to post process ... and I post process virtualy all my images. When I purchased a digital compact camera I made sure it was a model that could shoot RAW (Ricoh).
I haven't changed except that I shoot a lot less digital of any sort than I did 18 months ago.

Only raw and I treat each file individually - no batch processing here

I answered jpeg which is true for most of my images - EOS30D, 5D and 1D MkIII. I also shoot {RAW and jpeg} and very, very rarely RAW alone.
I save my jpegs to my HDD in a Read-only format, so any serious post-processing requires working on a fresh copy of the jpeg, and this is very rare. I shot slides heavily before moving to digital so I do understand the relationship of aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc. and I consider the histogram as probably the best feature of a DSLR.
I don't need RAW as a aid to recover from my incompetence - and I do consider that RAW being a proprietary format known accurately only to the camera manufacturers is a major long term failing.

Both the G9 and 5D are usually set to record in RAW, the G9 is sometimes set to large JPEG. I tend to edit all the family shots and save as 10 quality JPEGs other stuff stays a .2CR saved with an edited copy as 10 quality JPEG. I have only been using digital for a year now so I may have other ideas I if you ask again in another year

The camera JPEGs are derived from the raw information ... so surely the same applies for them too ....
(PS. raw is just the English word - not an acronym needing upper-case).

So what am I doing wrong if I compare two prints from the same image, one from the raw file, and one from the jpeg. Both printed identically and I can't see any difference?

I never, ever shoot RAW + JPEG, and only shoot JPEG once in a blue moon. RAW all the way for me.

Mostly RAW, but on occasion, JPG.
For example I occasionally have to take loads of shots in connection with my work, when the images will only ever be seen on a screen. It's a more efficient use of my time to shoot JPG in these circumstances, as Time is Money
If I am photting for pleasure, and assuming I have not had a few drinks at a party - when I confess that Auto might be brought into play, I almost always shoot aperture priority RAW.
When the exposures are tad tricky, say in product photography, and when using my steam age flash guns, I use manual exposure and RAW.
I have never shot both RAW and JPG.

I shoot both 99% of the times. I treat the RAW as a neg and the JPEG a share with all and send everywhere file. Only when I am stuck with my S3pro and I need the speed in unexpected situations I shoot JPEG 12MP and then I downsize a copy to send and share.

same here..
My camera can't shoot both at the same time so it's always set to RAW. I always open my pics in Capture One anyway to get the best from them. Only my IXUS shoots in jpeg which I only use when I want to put anything on the web.
If I had a choice I would shoot both if I could.

I take all of my hobby photos on the K10D in raw (DNG) and my work related images in jpeg (on the Olympus E-500). This is simply because I do not wish to waste time post processing work related images that are only there as a memory prod. My hobby photos, on the other hand, are often for use in club competitions, where it is important to get the best out of the image.
I do not consider myself to be incompetent and I also pay attention to caamera settings for exposure, but raw is not there to simply put right 'mistakes'. If you reaally think it is, then you may have little real understanding of what a digital file is all about IMHO. Sorry, but that statement was a little pretentious, perhaps, do you not think?

Raw, and raw only. Always. I'd prefer a true raw, without bias compensation & pixel fault mapping.

Funnily enough, 6 months ago I would have said RAW but now mainly JPEG which are more than good enough for club competition at A3+. Opinion, for the vast majority of the shots taken by members on here, JPEG will do just fine. RAW simply adds to the time taken to move from shot to print and over complicates the process.

I shoot mainly in JPEG just to reduce the time taken in post processing. The images are good enough for viewing on the screen and up to A3 prints. If I'm shooting for submission to a competition or for potential sale then I use Adobe DNG Raw format and open the files in Photoshop.
Using the manufacturers own software and the opening the pics again in PS is such a pain in the 'arris.........

Until I got my first D2x I would have said "both" but with space at a premium and raw files at 20MB I now only shoot raw. Jpeg is a more convenient format for sharing but with the occasional need to make radical adjustments raw is the only viable option.

Some people seem to be under the impression that post processing is only to correct mistakes made during the initial exposure. I use it as part of the creative process and working on a raw file gives me more room for manoeuvre.

I shoot mainly both and use the jpeg as a quick review and the RAW as the negative
can print off a quick contact sheet with the jpegs as well without having to bother processing the RAW files
