This week's poll is asking where you will buy your next camera - or lens. Do you prefer the comfort of a High Street store, the security of a favourite specialist's mail order service or are you happy to buy high value unseen on the web? Some head overseas too. What will you do?
Head to the home to let us know.
Thanks - and sorry this is late.

[pedant mode] I've already told you I'm not buying another camera last week..or was it before then ...[/pedant mode] Ah I read your post and it includes lenses...well that's different then. Sometime in the future I'll buy a new lens..possibly...but the source would have to be trusted [by me or even recommended by others e.g., this forum] and it would have to be at the right price....so I don't really know...probably on-line..hopefully if I've had chance to look in a shop..but definitely not abroad

Local store with friendly faces for me...and armed with AP to make sure I get a fair price. Haggling is way more fun than googling

I want to say my local shop, but then the price differential on a D300 and the 70-200 AF-S f:2.8 is just too great for me to be able to give them the business. I will give them every opportunity to come within a reasonable range, but as the purchase would be stretching me to the limit I'll need every penny I can get (right down to pay nowt for a year pay plans)

If its a camera then probably at a local store....as long as the difference between the store price and the web price isn't too extreme. As for lenses, probably abroad.

I would like to say 'At my local store' but they are as rare as hen's teeth around here. I don't like to buy things unseen so I tend to have a look at equipment that I have in mind when I'm about elsewhere before I make my mind up. I have answered 'Via mail order from an advert'. That way a local independant store (albeit not local to me) will get my business. I've used several from the back of AP and had good service every time.

I have said Local Store, but I am lucky in that I have found a local store with excellent service and which is willing to price match to the internet, otherwise I would probably have checked the On Line option.

Online for me or maybe a phone call to place an order. I do my research online and read AP and gather enough information to make my decision. I know what I want so price is the determing factor. I wouldn't be happy spending a large sum with a company from abroad, especially the far east.

Hopefully at a local store, although I've no plans to upgrade for a while. We are lucky to have a few good uns not too far away.
Second hand gear tends to be by mail order though (Ffordes, MXV, et al).

I want a Nikon D200 and the only way i can afford one is second hand online. Although I do worry that buying sight unseen might land me a duffer.

I really wanted to say "At my local store" and I'd even be willing to pay a small premium over web prices to do so, but it reality I'd probably have to get the shop to order the goods and invariably I'd have to pay up-front. That's no better than mail-order, so why would I wait ages for something I can get considerably cheaper online with next day delivery?

My "local" store is a 3 hour round trip away, so I'll admit that most stuff is bought mail order (usually through the web site but from a reputable camera shop rather than an internet specialist).

It'll be either the local store(s) with exception of Jessies and online depending whether the items I am after are available in the store at time...
It'll be LCE first then Jacobs failing that it'll be online.

Normally I buy locally, but if/when I replace my K100D or get any new K-mount lenses I'll almost certainly order from SRS in Watford (used to be my local store, and they are top dogs for Pentax).
However, I voted 'abroad' as my next camera will likely be a Zero from HK, or something old and fun I can find in Japan in May.

Since my next purchase is probably a second hand D200, I'll probably go to Aperture or Jacobs.

I can't guarantee my next purchase will be from my local store, especially if go to Focus, but it's a high probability considering the number of items I've purchased from them over the years...

Hopefully from a local shop. IF such things still exist when the consumer FF Nikon DSLR hits the market at a price I'm prepared to pay!

Wharehouse Express, probably the Sigma 10-20 zoom, probably within the next few weeks. Have bought from them several times before, always good service. Hopefully, they will soon be my 'Local Store' as well.

I've just spent the last of my budget for photographic gear. A few minutes ago I ordered a monopod from Morris Photographic and a 2x converter from 7dayshop. That should be me for the next few years.
