Why would anyone want to buy this when they could buy a Nikon D80, for example. My excitement is well under control.

Because they want what the L-10 has to offer I guess. I suppose it might appeal to someone wanting features that the Olympus E-510 doesn't have such as;
Fully articulated screen Hybrid AF system (contrast detect AF in Live View) Front and rear control dials (E-510 only has rear dial)
Horses for Courses

Well I,m seriously thinking about it, I had the Canon S3IS bridge camera before the D80,and still have it,and the swivel screen is really fantastic for some awkward shots.
I,ll wait for a couple of reviews,but if it,s anything like good I want one for chrissy chrimble.

Well, I was drooling when I first saw it, but now I,ve had chance for the new toy syndrome to settle, I agree it,s a bit dear at sudjested price of £899.99 is a tad over the top.
Now £700 LOL. the main draw of live view and 4/3 rds system Is because I have a few Hoya lenses from old Oly OM days I could drag into use, Now lets see,the hoya 300mm on a sensor crop facter 2x = 600 and with the 2x coverter=1200mm.
But I suppose it would be a tad dark through the viewfinder,lol and I would have to get a better tripod.
Getting a bit dear mum, with the price of them Manfrottos.lol .
