Ebay LUMIX DCM FZ7 WIDE ANGLE LENS
      #417955 - 04/01/2007 20:57

I have just bought a FZ7 and was looking at getting a wide angle lens having gone to Jessops and being qouted £140 for the tele lens and the same for the wide angle I looked on ebay and found this.(I hope this link works) Ebay wide angle/tele lens

I was wondering if this would be the same lenses for £48.99 plus £18.00 postage for two.

NO, these will not be the same quality at all. Also you stand a chance of getting charged import duty and VAT. My advice is to only buy the genuine item, there is a huge difference in quality between the real thing and these cheap copies. If you search around on the net you may find a better deal in the UK than Jessops.

I did not know about the import VAT on ebay I have bought things before like phones and not given it a thought. It is so hard to find these lenses in the uk. I am very happy with the camera so far I have only had it a couple of weeks and have taken some lovely photos. This is my first digital camera so I have a lot of learning to do. I was trying to take group photos indoors and it is hard to get everyone in the frame so I thought a wide angle lens would help.

It's not eBay but the Customs and Excise who may charge duty plus VAT on the import. Many times a package will get through without but you need to budget for the possibility that you will get charged duty and VAT.

I'm sure a wide angle lens will help your shots indoors - but do get a good one

Anyone had any joy or actually made a purchase of these E bay items mentioned here ?
Or know of anywhere UK based at reasonable cost where I could purchase from please.

I wasn't able to use the link but avoid any wideangle converter with TITANIUM, DIGITAL or MACRO on it. I bought one of these generic pieces of crap when I was in the U.S. and they are rubbish. The official Panasonic wide converter is supposed to be very good - but also expensive and hard to get. I got an Olympus TCon 0.8 on Ebay for about £40 and it is fantastic.
