Has anyone seen a FZ8 in the shops yet. None of my local camera shops have got one.

Not in the shops, but I ordered mine on Sunday and it turned up today. Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet what with being at work

Weather isn't looking favourable at the moment to take it out tonight either.

Got mine a couple of days ago on eBay (£172). Very impressed and staggered by the test shots so far. Also comes with a great RAW developer called SilkyPix which is a bit intimidating when you first use it but worth persevering with as it seems more comprehensive than Photoshop's plugin.
Handling is superb and the menu is very intuitive.

I've slowly been building up a collection of photos which I've got dotted about here and there. I'll upload them and post a link later.

I've uploaded a selection of images from the past week or so which you can see here: http://75.126.136.186/~oharse/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=3

I'm waiting for DNS to update, hence the IP address.

Hopefully you'll be able to get a feel for what the camera can do (even though I'm a complete novice both at photography and tweak the shots aftwards).

BigBursar
Thanks for uploading the pictures. I've only heard good reports of the FZ8, none bad so I think it's the FZ8 for me.
Thanks again. Dangie

I have seen one , I ordered one from warehouse express and it was delivered yesterday. It comes with the battery uncharged and by the time I had it charged I had to go to work.So frustrating to have a new toy and not be able to play.

I cheated. I had mine delivered to work, and charged the battery during the day Then I snapped away all evening.

I've now moved my pics onto Flickr, and you can see some of my FZ8 shots here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bursar/tags/fz8/

I like the pictures.I am now charged up and very happy with the few shots that I have taken around the house.I bought the FZ8 as a light weight back-up for my Nikons,we do a lot of trekking on holiday in very arduous conditions, but looking at your shots and the few I have taken I think it will be far more than a spare camera.I really am impressed both with quality of image and the amount of control that the camera gives.

Hello
I'm glad you all like the camera.
In response to my original post I've finally got to see and handle a FZ8. I was beginning to dispair that it would ever arrive in the shops.
Jessops hadn't got any, and they didn't know when they would. My nearest "Shop Panasonic" dealer was the same. In fact the assistant didn't even know what model I was talking about.
Then by off-chance I went to a small local specialist camera shop, Peter Rogers, Stafford, and saw they had a black FZ8 in the window. I went inside and asked to look at it. Expecting him to get the one from the window, I was surprised when he took a silver one out of a display cabinet. I liked it. The LCD and EVF are much improved over the FZ7. That to me is worth the extra. Afterall you have to see the picture before you take it.
The only thing missing was my credit card. It was at home. I'll make sure I have it next week.
Any more info on the FZ8's performace will be most appreciated.
Thanks

The quality of the JPEG images are really very good although just a little noisy when viewed at 100% but who really does that in everyday use.Use the RAW mode and things get really good, the included RAW convertor is ok.,and I like to control what effects are applied to my pictures and not leave things to a camera program.
I always regarded this type of camera as not quite serious photography but I was wrong, it is a very good tool with a lot of control and I think it will get more and more use.

I've been using the FZ8 for a while now.I'm based on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island and mostly take nature shots, particularly fungi macros in very low light conditions.I began with the FZ2,then the FZ5.
I tried a Canon Powershot S3IS briefly but went back to Panasonic with the FZ8
....What can I say? Phenomenal camera for a compact.
I'm only just learning to use it to full effect though and I'm constantly surprised by its versatility.

How can I shoot this tiny thing in the dark ?
