Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX Macro v Tamron 28-75mm f2.8
      #681272 - 21/07/2008 16:52

I am considering buying one of these two lenses and would like to know what experience you all have of these two and which people would recommend and why. The Tamron seems to represent the best bang for the buck, and with a good copy I have heard you can get some very sharp pictures. I have also read about the build quality not being so good and that the AF can drift after a while. Conversely the Sigma has better build quality and starts slightly wider. It is more pricey though, as well as heavier and bigger.

Which do you think i should go for?

Of the two I'd buy the 24-70 purely on the grounds of it's wider starting point - which still won't be terribly wide on your 450D...

I have a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 which I have used on digital - but only when I have my 10-20mm wide angle zoom with me otherwise it's the 17-70 Sigma for general use...
