Hey,
I cover Showjumping events fairly regularly and because a lot of the time im having to shoot into the sun, the pictures come out too dark or under exposed.
Ive got a canon 450D - just wondering if a petal shaped lens hood would help or if i'd just be wasting my money?
Thanks!

A lens hood will help to reduce flare from bright light sources outside the image as well as affording some physical protection to the lens. To help with exposure levels with a backlight subject, dial in +1 or +2 exposure compensation.

A lens hood won't help with exposure, just helps to reduce flare i.e stray light causing internal refections within the lens elements. If shooting into the sun then the camera's exposure meter will tend to under expose, so look at your camera manual about setting exposure compensation.
