I have been asked to find an inexpensive and fairly simple video editing program. It is to edit HI-8 format to DVD for viewing on a television.I think the actual editing would be quite straight-forward with nothing fancy. Is there such a program? Any help appreciated. Don

Roger, Being a long time user of Photoshop I should be able to pass on your recommendation to my son-in-law with no hesitation.I have always been happy with Adobe for stills and am confident that their video program should be equally good. Thank you for your quick reply, Don

When importing video into a computer, the hardware can also influence how well the software behaves. Unlike using Photoshop to edit still images, video requires quite a bit of action on the fly; and large and fast HDDs, DMA enabled memory can all play a part. Recent computers are probably fine, but modestly specified PCs older than a few years may be a problem.
FTR - I use VideoStudio 11.5+ successfully on a Win XP Home machine which is about 2 years old.

Malcolm, I found the need for large and fast HDDs,although it is my son-in law that requires the editor , I thought I would have a look at the free download of Premier4 . It took ages to download but upon attempting to install Iwas told insufficient speed. I will now take a look at the program that you use, Thanks, Don

Don't forget that Windows Movie Maker is free and comes bundled with Vista or is downloadable from Microsoft. It may be all he needs. I don't know what the minimum requirements are for Premiere Elements but older versions of Premiere will work if you can find them. I started using Premiere at version 5.0 and it worked fine on a PIII with 1gb of RAM. Have a look on eBay.
Don't forget you will need a way of getting the video onto disk and most/many analog/digital video devices will come with some editing software.

Thanks to everyone,I have now passed all advice to the son-in-law and will leave it to him. I prefer playing with my stills in Photoshop sooner than dabble in these new -fangled moving pictures. Don
