Hi,
I'm currently struggling my way through module 2 and I'm interested in finding out.....
1 Which module you're working on? 2 How long it has taken you to get there? 3 What do you think to the course?
I've learned loads of things on mod 2. Really basic stuff to most folks but I've got to start somewhere. On a photographic knowledge scale of 1-10 I'm probably a 0.2. Where do you think you would come?
Lisa.

Hi Lisa - You probably know from my previous posts where I am now, but for the record and to get this thread going, I started the course in July so its taken me 3+ months to get to module 3 which I'm working on now.
I'm still waiting for module 2 results to be returned but I know my tutor has been on holiday and he probably has a huge backlog of work to catch up on so I may have to wait a bit longer .
I think the course is brilliant , it (and the monthly forum competition) has got me out taking many more pictures in the 7 months since I joined the forum than I've taken over the last few years !
Photographic knowledge scale - definately at the lower end !!

Thanks for the info Chris. I'm really enjoying the course too! It's took me 3+ months and I'm still on module 2 so you're doing OK. If only I didn't have to go to work! Lisa.

Hi Chris,
well that fell flat on it's face didn't it? I mean me trying to get some discussion going on here and you trying to start the thread off. Of the 77 people who have viewed this post only 3 have answered and 2 of those was me!!!! (I think that's quite funny really!) Any ideas as to why no-one likes using this forum or is there only me, you and Jan on this course? (Oh! and a chap who's just done module 1 and posted on the Photographic forum last week). Would anyone from the Photographic forum like to join in and give us some encouragement? LDB

Hi Lisa, This is my first posting on the forum. I Tried to answer you call for help on Module2 last week but I had lost my login details. Anyway, I`m here now and hope to contribute more in the future as the forum is a great way to thrash out any confusion and uncertainties suurounding the course. I am currently working on Module 6, I deliberatley tend not to rush through a module for the sake of it. I enrolled to learn, therefore I need time to understand and play arround with the content. I then have to spend more time trying to understand some of the module assignment instructions !! This is my only criticism of what I consider to be a very useful course, the tutor feedback is especially helpful. So my advice is - don`t rush! practice and enjoy the results -- no matter how good or bad. If I can help out/contribute I will (when I have time!) but remember I am also new to digital photography. Regards Chris.J (yes another Chris!)

Hey Lisa - don't give up hope. I think most of those 77 were probably just browsing and not doing the course. I read and re-read all the posts here before deciding to do the course. If those doing the course see a few of us keep on posting then I'm sure they will see the benifit of us all helping each other out and decide to join in too! (I hope!)

Hi Lisa
I have an average level of experience in photography but my digital knowledge was severly lacking!
Just got my head around the idea of Module 2 and now that I understand it will put into practice by actually starting and finishing module 2!
Out of interest sent Module 1 work off over a month ago and haven't heard didly squat, is this normal?
I don't even know who my course tutor is, so feel a bit in the dark?
Have you had any feedback yet?
Matt

Hi Matt - suggest you email Laura Bianco. I had the same problem with mod 1 . Turned out that my tutor was very busy and hadn't got round to marking it. If you happen to have the same tutor as me then I can tell you he was on holiday most of October , I'm still waiting for mod 2 to arrive back!

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!! There are more of us out there! I'm so happy to have got some response, I'm jumping round the office (and getting some very funny looks).
Hi Chris J, you're really doing well to be on mod 6 when you only started in May. I'm still bogged down in mod 2 but I think I've nearly got it sorted out in my head now. Have you find mod 2 the hardest so far?
Hi to Matt as well, yes I was really impatient to get mod 1 back (I think initial enthusiasm was the cause) but it came back in week 5 after posting. I would have liked to know who my tutor was too. I guess Laura allocates them as mod 1 gets in to her.
Please keep joining in and putting stuff on yourselves. It can only benefit us all the more brains there are to pick.
Lisa.

Hi Lisa, I started the course in January - not May! As I said, I am happy to make steady progress and have no intention of rushing through any of the modules - I aim to complete a module every two months, if it takes longer , thats fine! Module 2 certainly needed some thinking and application. However it was excellent at increasing my undertanding of how digital images are captured on my camera. The most important thing that I learned was that you must never overexpose a digital shot as the detail of the overexposed areas is lost forever. I now ensure that I never overexpose by more than 2 stops with my camera (EOS20D) - I had more or less worked this out to my cost just before starting the course, module 2 certainly fixed things in my mind. Like you most of my time is spent working, from now on its dark when I leave home, dark when I return! so I just have to snatch time when I can. A final point - so far, I have always taken new shots to complete each module - I never use existing images (not that I have many!)this probably puts on extra pressure, but I think it is a good way to experiment and learn. Hi Chris J,
sorry! I got May from your registration date - I still think you're getting on pretty well.
I've got a Canon 20D too. I really like it but think perhaps the sensor hasn't got much range on the lighter end. Yes, I'm doing all new pics for my submissions and have been out today in my lunch time to photo Jodrell Bank for mod 2 (I'm not happy with one of the set of photos I have already - a bit boring). I ended up in the back of a farmyard as the clearest view was there and got a nice set of three as the sun decided to put in an appearance. I wasn't very popular at work though as I've been leaving bits of mud over the carpet all afternoon.
So, do you think mod 2 is the hardest one? Can I look forward to things getting a bit easier from now on?
Lisa.

Well, well! I have just logged on and find that some others have joined us. What a treat. I have just posted off module 2, I think I have probably failed it, but I have learned a lot just the same. I am now dealing with module 3 and thank goodness, this one makes me feel more at home. I would love to know if there are any others out there who found module 2 almost too much. Without being a winger, the course was for beginners, and I cannot see how anyone with a new compact camera just starting out could tackle this course. What do you all think? Anyway good to see some new people on here. Jan

Hi everyone, how are things progressing?
I contacted Laura Bianco yesterday(she's really nice)by email and within several minutes she rang me, which was well impressive!
Unfortunately they have never received my module 1 coursework and it seems very likely that it has been lost by Royal Snail Mail!
Fortunately I have made a back up copy, so all is not lost and I suppose on the positive side at least I know why I haven't had any feedback or the allocation of a course tutor yet!
Any one had any issues with their USB pen drives?

Hi Matt,
how annoying and depressing that your mod 1 has got lost. I was wondering how to send mod 2 off (should have it finished next week)and will now probably pay a bit more to make sure it gets there.
Pen drive - it's OK but I've found that I've lost some text updates. I'm not sure if that's me removing it from the USB incorrectly (I do close it down before taking it out obviously) so I now back up any updates onto the PC hard drive beforehand. Lisa.

Lisa, I think you are absolutely correct - you shouldn`t attempt the course with just a compact camera, good they maybe, but so far as I am aware (speaking from experience) they lack the full range of control offered by a SLR. The weekend is almost here - can I steal a cou[le of hours to get on with Mod.6... Chris J

Hi Chris J,
I've nothing against digital compact cameras I've got 3 myself! What Jan was saying in our other post was that someone would have trouble if their compact had auto everything and no manual option. For this sort of stuff I prefer my SLR, but I still use my compacts frequently - they're so much easy to carry about.
Hope you have a good weekend. I'm going to concentrate on getting mod 2 finished and in the post.
Speak to you next week. Lisa.

Hi Folks, I just thought I would join in
I am just starting module one. But I have read the manual at least 3 times, and every time I pick up a bit more. Initially I considered using existing images for the module, but later decided that it would be better to start afresh. Since then I have regretted this decision, as the weather has been bad and the light so poor. Dark getting into work, and dark by the time I leave! So I have stuck by my decision, and am slowly preparing the images for Module One.
To answer one of Lisa's inital questions, I am most impressed by the course. I am a new member of a local camera club and when I showed some the beginners (like me) the module syllabus and the manual they thought it was detailed and good value.
Of course one (there's always one isn't there?) then asked for a photocopy, or for 'a wee lend' of the manual. (In other words, great stuff, but I don't want to pay for it! Needless to say I told him to take a hike.) But others thought it was too much work, or too expensive.

I am also just working on Module 1. Have been dragging my heels a little as I have also been doing a Photgraphy course one night a week, which has reinforced things I knew and given me a few new things to think about.
Hopefully over the next couple of months I will get module 1 finished and module 2 as well...
