Module 7 discussion
      #550269 - 05/10/2007 11:32

As I'm scratching my head a bit about something in mod 6 part B, I thought I'd start mod 7. So now as well as scratching my head I have spotty vision. Lisa.

Come on Chris, keep up!

I'm sure Mrs APChris won't mind if the extension isn't finished for Xmas. Lisa.

This ladybird's got an awful lot of dust on it. And some odd markings on it's back - looks like a ring flash reflection to me. Lisa.

I'm now scratching my head about the ladybird in this module. What's all this reflection stuff on the wing cases? Looks very odd to me. Also, the perspective is peculiar in the statue pic in Part C - either the camera or operator had had one too many. Lisa.

Now I've got mod 6 back I really must get on with mod 7. Trouble is, staring at the red blobs is literally giving me a headache. Lisa.

I'm having a problem with the image in part A with the red squiggles on. You have to take off the other coloured marks but leave the red squiggles and red blocks on. I've managed everything apart from the yellow line inside the top inner V of the red X. It's because of the graduation of colour and the squiggley nature of the line. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how it's best to proceed? Lisa.

Hi Lisa,
Do you mean the area where the mark goes through two differnt areas of colour - ie crosses the boundary of two coloured areas? If so, I used the clone stamp to sample a clean area of the boundary - there is a small set of cross hairs to accurately align the clone stamp tool with the boundary accurately.I then very carefully applied the cloned area so that it was aligned with the boundary in the same manner in which it was sampled. Sometimes you can be out by a few pixels - in which case just delete and repeat.
Not the most eloquent explanation! May be I should have just said "I used the clone stamp"!

That's sort of what I mean Chris and what you've suggested is what I've done for the majority of the image. It's just this particular bit which is a wiggley bent line with graduated red through to blue and a yellow line running through it. When I get home I'll post the bit I mean and you can see what you think. I'm probably trying to make things too complicated as usual. Lisa.

Here's the bit that's causing the trouble. If the line was straight it'd be OK but it's wiggley and bent as well. Suggestions anyone?

Lisa.

PS for those that don't know the requirement is to get rid of the yellow and fill in the red and blue.

Hi Lisa,
Yep! I remember this. I just used a high magnification then the clone tool as explained - I then cleaned the area up with the clone tool set at a smaller radius using the gradation of pixels in the red and blue as my guide/target. It took some time so I`m not sure if it was the most efficient method - however the result was fine.
Good luck.
Chris

Lisa,
I just removed the yellow bits in about two minutes! I realised while I was doing this that you need to hold down the mouse button and drag the clone stamp over the area you are correcting - in this case along the direction of the boundary - this makes it much easier!

Phew - I've finally managed it. I had a sudden idea this morning and when I tried it this afternoon it made all the difference. So that's mod 7 finished and ready to go in the post next week. Lisa.

Thanks Chris. Got it in the post last Thurs. Only just got round to looking at Garry's DVDs and there's some useful tips in there for dealing with the rotation/perspective problems in mod 7. Not that I did sort out the perspective prob with one of the images, as that didn't seem to be what the module was about. Perhaps I should have? I'm sure Barney will let me know. lisa.

Part A done already

I see what you mean about the ladybird Lisa. Lots of unusual marks and patterns on it, had difficulty deciding if I should clone them out or not , then left them alone and concentrated on the dust.

Now for the lamppost and wires...

...and now the rest of mod 7 done too, well editing the images bit. I still need to do the write-up.

Have to say this one wasn't too difficult, due to having played with the clone tool and adjusted wonky horizons before. The measure tool is new to me and I found that of great benifit. I don't have a healing brush (PS6) so I had to do it all with the clone tool.

The last image, 07-06 with the statue and columns, was the hardest to do as it has converging verticals. My result has the statue straight but the columns still lean in at the top so I've adjusted a second version using the perspective correction tool as well that makes both columns vertical.

Not sure which one to submit though as perspective correction isn't part of this module, or should I send both?
What do you all think?

Having just sent my USB stick off with mod 6 I'll have to wait a few weeks before I can send this one off. Think I'll crack on with mod 8 while I wait!

Is that you I can see in the distance Lisa...? I'm catching you up!

Must be the 'converging verticals' Chris!

[rub in mode on]I've got a four month advantage on you though, so as you've said yourself you've got to get a move on![rub in mode off] Lisa.

PS Did you enjoy Christmas at home now your extension is finished and how big was the Christmas tree??
