Hi all, I have two problems with the multiple choice section, both on question 4. Firstly, it shows four histograms which two give the impression that they are the same. I have tried checking what tone values they show but they give the same readings. This has been raised before but I could not find any feedback. A small nudge in the right direction would help, or are they ment to show the same histogram.
Second part to my query, using CS3 the histograms show a different tonal structure of the image depending if I use the compact view compared to the expanded view. Is this normal or am I having a senior moment.

Hi Les,
if you're talking about fig 3.11 histograms B & C looking identical, well err, they are! It's not a trick question but 'ye oldey printing error' strikes again. That's what I told my tutor and sent him a screen shot of what I thought it should look like.
Not quite sure what you mean about the histograms looking different in compact or expanded view, but I don't think you're having a senior moment - I should inspect the image a bit more closely (cryptic clue!) Lisa.

Thanks Lisa, I was getting worried that the eyes were going like the rest of me. As to the histogram, if you use CS3 on the right you have a toolbar with Navigator, Info and Histogram tabs. In the histogram tab on the right you have a down facing triangle with three bars to its right. Click on this and you get a drop doen menue with the following - compact view - expanded view - all channels view. Depending on what view you use, the histogram changed with image 3.11. This must be a quirk with this image as I've tried it with others and its fine. Of course if you don't use SC3 this may make no sense at all. Les

Hello Les, Do you mean the input and output values change as you switch between expanded and compact views? Chris

Hi Chris, I might do, if I knew what you mean. What is the input and output values? As you can see I am new to this. Les

Hi Les, Don`t worry we`re all trying to learn here! There should be some small text boxes labelled input and output positioned just below the main tone curve window. Whenever you make any adjustment to the curve, then the input/output values will change. However when you switch between compact and expanded views, these values, hence the shape of the tone curve should not change at all. Hope this helps, Chris

Thanks Chris, Infomation absorbed, I think. The image in question is just used for comparison to 4 histograms and no change is made to it. As there are only 5 tonal values in the image, I was woundering if this is causing it? Im just interested in how things work, so its not a problem for the course. My wife says I'm just nosy. Thanks for the info Les
