Anyone here noticed the effect of the'Energy Saving 'bulbs on the colour balance of colour prints? Since installing in my darkroom and living room I notice that prints look quite magenta/red under the energy saving bulbs then as soon as I view them by daylight they look correct! If I balance a RA4 colour prnt in my darkroom as soon as I get outside and view by daylight they have a terrible Green colour cast !

They are fluorescent tubes rolled up.

Hi Pete
It may be worth getting a daylight balanced fluorescent tube for the darkroom, I assume that they are still available from pro dealers for use in light boxes. But it will require that you have a 'strip' type fluorescent light fitting installed.

A bit of a late post PeteE, only just stumbled across your post.
For full daylight range and balance, a bluish lamp does to nothing to the fullfil the needs of natural spectrum.
I used to be a machine minder on newspaper presses, colour was critical and so lighting conditions. We ran colour balanced strip lights, in my study/studio at home to ensure colour values between LaCie monitor, Epson R2400 and Nikon I use bulbs from the people below. I would say the viewing result is much the same; I no longer have a Gretag-Macbeth to check my judgement.
These bulbs are near as dammit colour/balance/range perfect to me. My bulb has been running for I do not no how many hours [they say 10,000 hrs] but some four years.
I have friends who use them against SAD, I make no comment.
