I am delighted to see another film on the market, but I have never used SFX. What does it do to make itself stand out?

It's an mono film with extended IR sensitivity. That means in conjunction with a suitable filter to transmit IR light only you can get the classic black sky/white foliage effect that IR gives. With an ordinary red filter you get enhanced contrast performance with darker skies than the normal mono/red filter combination.
I believe it's also rather less tricky to use than a true IR film such as Kodak's HIE with less need for absolute darkness when loading unloading the camera.
I missed out on using it before Ilford went haywire but am tempted to give it a go this time round.

Thanks for that. I have just read the spec sheet on the Ilford site, and it looks very interesting. I hope to be in the UK in March, so will pick some up to try.

My all-time favourite B&W film - I love it in my 3.5F Planar with a red filter. And with Velvia 50 in the 3.5F Xenotar again, my happiness is complete!

They were only going to produce it in 35mm but were badgered in extremis re. 120 format. I'll definitely have to get the 124G fixed now!
The IR effect is not as extreme as Kodak HIE or the now deceased Konica, but it's good fun. Grain/sharpness is on a par with HP5 Plus and it works well with most developers. It can be loaded with the same degree of care as any panchromatic film. Example below - sand dunes with SFX200, OM-1n, 24mm and Wratten red 25a filter.

I have just been given a medium sized freezer and this news is what I've been waiting for. I'm thinking that the combination of SFX and 1950s lenses (or earlier) could be rather interesting.

Ilford were planning to do an annual production run (as long as demand is still there, of course), so you shouldn't need to buy too many rolls at once.
If you like 'interesting' films to partner your lenses, why not try Classic Pan 200 or 400? As Forte have stopped production these old tech films (claimed to be high in silver but that's not strictly true) will be unavailable soon. They were still on sale at Retrophotographic.com last time I looked (probably time for another peek).
This also means their Polywarmtone paper will also be extinct soon. I'm told it's very nice. Shame.

That's why there's a brick of APX25 in my freezer and, though I don't know when I'll get to use it, I still can't quite bring myself to sell it. After all, I could surely be quite happy using Pan F, but......

This means I can use the three rolls I've been saving. I've been waiting til I get a I/R filter, but from the above posts I gather decent results are there to be had with a plain red filter ?
