Hi All,

I joined the forum because I'm in need of some expert advice. Recently I've been putting some thought into upgrading from my current 450D to a full frame model. As I'm on a relatively tight budget I'm limited to second hand, and as I have a few lenses and a film body that I'd like to keep using I'm going to stick with Canon. That said, two camera that have caught my eye are the 5DMk1 and the 1D Mk2 as they both seem to go for around the same price on eBay and they both seem to have similarly good reviews.

I am aware that there 5D has a larger sensor than the 1D Mk2 but does that mean better IQ?
Can any body give me advice on which model I should go for? Or should I go for something else entirely?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

I am looking to buy my first descent camera. I am a complete newbie so not sure what to go for. My original thought was a DSLR but when looking more in to it I decided it wouldn't be convenient as I want to be able to take it on holiday and snowboarding. I'm now thinking more down the compact system camera route and was first drawn to the Nikon 1 v2 due to the simplicity and compact design but after talking to a few people I'm now looking at the Sony NEX 5r, my only concern is the lack of view finder and as 90% of the photography I will be doing will be outside, I fear using the screen will be a pain.

Any views on this?

Thanks
Liam

No doubt we all got our favourites shop etc., I particularly like Amazon, I also buy from Hi Tech Filters in Aberdare, 123 Photographs, Bristol Camera's and Teamwork Digital. Where do you like to buy from?
The Samsung system camera features a powerful 20.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor and a large 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen display. Enhanced Wi-Fi Connectivity is at the heart of the NX2000, enabled by Samsung's Smart Camera 2.0 technology, offering a host of functions which make it easy to share and store pictures directly from the digital camera. Users can take photos of fast-moving subjects, such as a child running with Action Freeze or capture everyone’s 'good side' with Best Face which takes five consecutive photos and lets the user select the best facial expression of each person in the picture http://www.chargers-mall.co.uk/nx200...ry-charger.htm.

Home repair or new camera? Sony A230.

Hi all.

First time here so greetings.

I have a Sony A230. It's not the most spectacular of cameras but for family / local scout group pictures it gives good enough results. However, it took a knock and now the CCD is misplaced. The image I get is a little to the right and up from what I see in the viewfinder. Also, I get occasional errors where the shutter seems to only partly close and I get a message on the screen saying "Camera Error". An image is recorded but it's black.

I've had vague estimates for repair locally, about £170. The camera sells, working, on ebay for a range between £55 (body only) and £160. Currently there are 40 of them on eBay. With no faulty ones listed that I could see so the chance of selling this for more than £20 if at all seem remote.

I want to stick with Sony because my wife and I have several lenses that fit. It seems that my options are:

1 - Buy a new Sony. They seem to start with the SLT A58 at about £3-400. Will this take the older Minolta lenses? I need to research this a lot more.

2 - Buy a used Sony. I like the look of A700's on ebay. £200+ should get me a decent body and it has excellent reviews.

3 - Get the A230 repaired. Hmmm, for that money I'd rather go with option 2.

4 - What is involved in a home repair? I have been looking for a manual that shows how to strip the A230. I know a clean room is needed and probably special tools. But so far no manual. User guides, yes, but no service manual. Can I get one somewhere and is there more than a 20% chance I might improve the CCD location?

Thanks for reading this wall of text. Keep snapping.

Mike.

Hi all! I am noob to the forum, but I would love any and all of your advice.

I am a student filmmaker, entering my last year of college and I am looking to purchase a camcorder or dslr. I will primarily be using it to film my senior thesis film (a documentary short), but I would also like this to be a tool for personal and freelance projects this summer and in the years to come. I have a lot of experience as an editor, but not too much as a camera operator. Most of my previous films have been done using the kodak flip digital camera, but I think it is time for an upgrade. I also have experience with my Nikon D80, but this does not have video on it.

I plan to do promotional videos, interviews, documentary projects and a music video for one of my friends. I would love a camera that records sound well (or has the ability to attach a mic) and takes clear, crisp video. It is also important to me that it has a decent sized view-finder, is user-friendly and a good camera to learn and grow with. I know these cameras come with endless features and adjustable options, so I hope that either they are easy to learn otherwise they will be wasted on me. I'm also interested in a camera that has removable lenses so that I could add fish-eye, wide-angle, or long-zoom sport type lenses if I purchased them (although I'm not sure if this is even an option...my last filming experience was using actual film strip on bolex cameras)

Budget: ~$3000 for body, lenses and accessories. But if I am going to spend close to this much I'd like for the camera to not quickly be outdated by new technology (not sure if this is just inevitable or what)

Thanks in advance for any and all advice:D

Hi all,

I wondered if I could have some advice. I run a cosmetic medicine clinic (botox etc) and we need to buy a decent SLR camera to take before and after shots of our patients for our website. Ideally, we want to be able to send the photos wirelessly to the computer in the consultation room so we can show the patients immediately. We need to do this without spending massive amounts of money so any suggestions on mid-price options would be great.
Thanks!

Hey all!

Hey all!

I am looking to buy my first camera (that is not attached to my smartphone) ever and need some help!
I have a hobby in which I paint miniatures (Warhammer to be precise).
What I want to be able to do with my camera is the following:
-Film detailed tutorials on how to paint these models
-Take detailed pictures of the finished products
-Take pictures when I'm on vacation with my girlfriend or when I have a family weekend in such a way that I can be really proud of the results.

The two camera's Im stuck at at the moment can most likely do the last point I mentioned, so Im mostly conserned about the first two.
Since I found out that people in shops never understand what I want (and they tend to just want to sell me the brand that they get the highest margin of) perhaps this video is nice to show what I want to do with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IdnSTwxmoY

This models is about 14 cm high, which is somewhat the highest model I would most likely paint. All other models are more in the 4-5cm range.

So what camera's am I stuck at?
The Nikon d3200 and the Sony SLT-a58
and with the nikon I'm also stuck with: 18x55 vr or 18x105 vr? (With sony I only have a budget for 18x55)

So the main thing I want to be able to do is: take 1080p movies of small objects that move alot (When I paint I dont keep the model fixed at one point, but I do want it to stay as sharp as possible).

These camera's are the most I can afford so my question: Any of these two? or a completely different camera (bridge maybe?).

Thank you very much!
Arjan
