View Full Version : Help! Sony HX50 or Panasonis TZ40?

I looking for a compact camera so as my Father doesnít have to lug his heavy DSLR & kit when he is out walking. He normally takes still photos when out walking in the mountains so something with a decent zoom and good clarity & colour are the main priorities. He doesnít tend to use many of the other functions and Iím not worried about differences in price. Iím trying to decide between the Sony DSC-HX50V and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40. Any help or advice gratefully appreciated!

It's a matter of personal preference. I like both very much. In the UK we don't get the HX50V with GPS though, do we? Ignoring that feature, the main thing to consider must be their size. The Sony is a bit bulkier. Both have gone a bit OTT with the megapixels on the small sensors but both are superb little cameras. Which would I choose? Difficult question. Possibly the Sony this time.
