I have just got my first DSLR a nikon d5100 with 18-55 lens.I have been using my trusty P90 superzoom up till now.
I do a bit of travelling and want an all round zoom lens to travel with which is reasonably light and a good all rounder .I have been looking at the nikon dx 55-200
or 70-300mm as i want it to work in auto focus
Any suggestions ?
Cheers

Hi Dave

I have the Nikon 70 300 and have had the 55 200 of the two lenses the 70 300 is a far better lens, it will auto focus really fast, with little or no fringing, and comes with VR2,The Sigma 70 300 OS is also worth a look. Hope this helps... Graham

do you require a lens that goes from 18-250

I was thinking some thing like that as it would save having to carry around and keep changing lenses but looking at all options

you could look at a tamron and sigma, the down side to these lenses is that they are a compromise so what do you shoot

most things but mainly landscapes and a lot of close up of plants .I do a fair bit of travelling and a reasonable zoom would be handy.
My p90 24x bridge is really handy but not brilliant quality
I was looking at the sigma 18-250 earlier that looks quite good and a lot cheaper than the nikon 18-300

just looked on WDC web page to compare products and the sigma 18-250 scores 5 percent more than the nikon 18-300
