I am after a Sony Alpha... mainly due to my father having a few and all the setup so I can borrow his lens...

There are quite a few models so I am a bit lost which one is the best for my budget

Looked at the alpha a390 but the a380 has better reviews...

I have a budget of 500 ish... I dont want something that is too entry level or anything too advanced but something that will last a long time and will let me take various pics with different lens

What do people recommend? I have limited knowledge but have been using my fathers a100 / a600 and a900 over the last couple of years. The a100 struggles with some of the lens

anyway I have no clue... please help

Thanks in advance

Hi I am a Sony alpha user using the A200 A300 and A550 and highly rate any of these three models, you say you have 500’ish to spend and if I were you as you have lenses you can use I personally would get the A580 body or with kit lens, this camera has rave reviews and its image sensor is second to none.

Jessops with kit lens £549.95

Park Cameras body only £499

Hope this helps Aidy

PS to check out image quality from my three camera bodies follow link to my flickr page

Thanks for your reply. That was my favourite camera after doing some research. I have been told the standard lens are useless so is it worth buying body only and getting some better lens?

What would be the next camera down to this?

550 is not too bad but it soon mounts up when buying all the other extras

Hi the A550 is a good camera, I brought mine second-hand on eBay for £300 the same as my A300 which cost £225 on eBay when I purchased it, so unless you really feel you need a brand new camera it may be worth checking eBay out. As for other Sony models the ones after the A350 went down hill a bit until they brought the A550 out. So for me personally it would be in this order A200, A300, A350, A550 and top of list A580. As for the kit lens itís not too bad the links below are images taken with this lens, both of these I did sell as wanted better glass.

If you want to check the A200 A300 and A550 image quality out feel free to go through my flickr images.

Hope this helps Aidy

Will have a look on ebay. I have access to lots of different lens but would buy a camera lens package on ebay if the price is good.

I looked at jessops, mainly due to the 2 year insurance...
