Hi everyone, my first post here :)

Late last year I bought a Canon EOS 7D to replace my venerable Panasonic FZ50.

The 7D came as a kit, the bundled lens being a quite versatile 18-135mm F3.5 zoom, however, I'd like something with a little more 'reach' as I often photograph wildlife and motorsports.

My FZ50 has excellent Leica optics with an awesome 35-420mm (equivalent) focal length and it's this upper figure I'd like to get closer to with a new lens for my Canon, ideally without sacrificing the versatility.

I'm hoping there's something available up to the £300 mark but could stretch the budget if this proves unrealistic.

Cheers.

There are a few choices but what do you take shoots of.
The price range you have given I would say look at the efs55-250is great light weight lens

Hi Wave,

as per my original post, mainly wildlife and motorsports.

How does the EF-S 55-250mm square-up against the EF 70-300mm IS USM?

Cheers.

IMHO the 55-250 is a good lens but for what you want to take shoots of you find you need somethings faster. That means a lot more money
