View Full Version : 'Highend' Compact or Micro System

Hi Guys,

I'm pondering the between getting a decent compact (like the Canon s95 (http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com/equipment/reviews/compactcameras/editors-choice/128790/1/canon-powershot-s95-review.html)), or a micro format, like the Olympus E-P1 (http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com/equipment/reviews/microsystemcameras/26623/1/olympus-e-p1-review.html). Both are similarly priced, now that amazon is discounting the EP1.

I can't help but think the micro format cameras are designed, and exist to cater to the needs of 'proper' photographers, who have grown up with film and the replaceable lens. And that a decent compact like the Canon, with modern styling, has now matured to offer similar quality to DSLR's. Is this assumption generally correct, and in which case is my choice down to style rather than substance (forgoing finer differences in specifications).

Essentially I want a camera that is portable and produces great quality images, with HD video being a bonus, oh it should be so simple!!

Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

Thanks.

Ian.
