Canon 450d or 500d

Hi everyone, I'm about to take my first leap into the world of dslr's and am down to a choice of two, the Canon 450d twin lens kit and the 500d single lens kit.

There's only a few pound difference in price, I'm not bothered about the video capability of the 500d, so purely from a photography point of view, which is the better package?

I guess I should say I'm mostly interested in landscapes and portraits.

Hi as far as I can tell there are a few differenes with the two models 12mp to 15mp the 450d kits lens is not as good as the 500d and the IQ is better with the 500d.
