Hi all, im new to photography and my missus is buying me a half decent camera for my 40th.
I want the camera for Landscapes and portraits of my kids. I may even buy some studio gear back drop etc. I have had my heart set on the Panasonic G2 but now I have read articals on the Nikon D3100. My budget is around 500 - 600 ish. I just don't know enough about photography to decide wich would be the best for me.
Has anyone got an opinion on this?

Plus is the stock lense that comes with the G2 wide enough for good Landscape shots.

I'm still new to photography, but after reading the articles on the D3100 I would go for that. I currently have the D3000 which is fantastic for me.

Hi and welcome.
If you are thinking of a DSLR then it is important to remember that you are buying into a system, think of what you want to shoot look at available lenses not all are compatible. Make a short list and go to a shop and try them see how they feel then make your choice. Good luck
