SLR Camera for birdwatching

Hi All

I am currently looking for an SLR camera to take pictures of birds to help with identification. I can spend approx £400 - £500.

Will I need to buy an extra lense to see the birds at a distance?

Yes you will have to get a telephoto lens. slrs are sold in kit form with usually 18-55 lens or as a body only, so you get your own lenses.if this your is your first slr then i would have a good look around and do some research on whats out there so you need to look at your budget and put in a lens on top of that

If it's purely birdwatching you're going to be doing, then purchasing either a body only sony a290/390, a canon 1000d or a nikon d3000/5000 with a sigma 70-300 APO. That should just about hit the limit of your budget, whilst offering moderately good spec :)
