Price is an issue...

What budget do you have?

'issue' could be 50 to some people or 150 to others

i dont think moving files off will improve your pc best speed boost is increase ram size. or reinstall windows to bring it back to a fresh start.

If the hard drive is reaching near full capacity, then making some space will always speed things up a little. You could always try adding extra 'RAM' which should also help with your computer's speed. Ultimately, if you are looking to speed things up significantly then you may have to start saving for a new Computer. That said, an extrernal hard drive now will save a lot of faffing about transferring photos when you do upgrade the computer.....

Back to your hard drive issue, you should always back up your photos so if your budget can stretch to two drives (main and backup) then so much the better.

You can't go too wrong with Seagate or Western Digital, and you can pick up a 1TB version of either for around 50 if you shop around. Expect to pay a little more if size, high speed and wireless capability become an issue.

PC World usually have a deal or two both in store and online this time of year.

Just remeber to 'defrag' your hard drive after you've transferred your photo's, and don't expect miracles on the speed front....

Happy shopping :)

I can recommend a Western Digital Mybook Live NAS drive (network attached so can be accessed from anywhere - even in other countries!). They do a 1TB or 2TB flavour, and work like a charm. Prices start from about 100 for the 1TB version.
