The Microtek ScanMaker 6100 covers a fair amount of desk space but compensates with a relatively low profile.

Now a tradition with Microtek film-capable flat bed scanners, there is an illuminated window on the top of the lid that serves as a light box. SilverFast SE software is bundled with the 6100 and while this has its fans, the standard Microtek scan control software is actually very comprehensive in its own right.

Reflective scans are show good density and contrast. There is a slight pink tint to greys, but is easily corrected. With negative film the bias is green, but again it’s easily corrected. Film scan sharpness is good too. However you are made to wait up to 12 minutes for a 2400ppi 35mm neg frame to be scanned. For what it offers, the price is about right.

Verdict

The Microtek ScanMaker 6100 is certainly well worth considering if you aren’t too concerned about having slow film scanning performance.
