Epson Stylus RX560
The RX560 is instantly recognisable as an Epson and for good reason as its clever design is space efficient. Both the paper outlet and the inlet stack close up to seal the unit from dust. You can also position the RX560 right up against the wall as both power and USB ports are recessed.
As we have come to expect from Epson’s six colour, single-ink cartridge system, print quality is very good, with particularly impressive black density and skin-tones and generally neutral rendition. Grey scale purity isn’t good, unfortunately, with some magenta entering mid-greys. Print speed is not great, taking over two minutes for an A4 borderless print using normal settings, or about twice as long as the Canon Pixma MP600. 6x4in prints take a more competitive 32 seconds. Scanner speed is more nippy with a 300ppi A4 area scanned in 21 seconds and a 600ppi 6x4in print in 40 seconds.
Verdict
The RX560 is easy to use and delivers above-average results, but it’s a bit long in the tooth and its performance, while above average, doesn’t really keep pace with some others in this price range. However, it’s worth considering if discounted and is good value for money. Overall, it offers good print quality, but speed holds it back.
