I have been trying all day to get help by computer how to use my DCP-145C PRINTER. Will someone please give me some help?

Had 145c for 9 mths,but only just scanned some old postcards. In colour they are covered with large spots and in greyscale covered in large black lines. I wanted to post them for sale,but it is impossible. Brother say it is the light refleced back from the card surface and if I want a good image, I should buy a digital scanner costing £100's. However it says on the description ' multiunction & useful for basic needs. What could be more basic than scanning an old postcard? With new inks it has cost me £80 and I find it useless for my needs and do not want it!

This printer is a nightmare when printing on photo paper. Anything higher than 170 gsm paper, the printer thinks that it is a paper jam, makes some funny noises and the paper will be rejected. If you are printing photos, look elsewhere.
