Brother has been producing high-quality business laser printers and are, perhaps, not the first name that springs to mind when looking for a photo quality printer.

The DCP-145C uses four separate CMYK cartridges and is a compact unit with plenty of options for producing high-quality prints.

The printer also has a PictBridge port, and this enables you to print from a PictBridge compatible camera.

This printer uses a front feed paper tray which means the media has to go through a U bend before printing. This caused some paper jam problems using Epson Photo Glossy media.

Verdict

Using Ilford Galerie Smooth High Gloss Media the prints were nothing short of superb. The scanner, on the other hand, was not up to the same high standard. Scans were soft when compared to the other three units. Having said that, looking at the prints made from each scan, you would find it hard to distinguish any quality difference between the four units.
