I want to take up photography. Would you say this is a good SLR to start on? I noticed the review stated it was. I like the idea that it improves photography but don't want to find it too challenging as a starter. Thanks

As with Tom, I'm looking for an affordable lightweight DSLR mainly for close ups- will this do it? Also, I 'm worried about the AA batteries - have always had short battery life with non-lithium, hows this one?

Keith I have a Pentax ist DS and I have used the AA Lithium in it and they lasted 6 month. I tried the non-Lithium and they didn't seem to last too long. You can use them in a pinch. I'm going to buy the rechargeable ones and see how they do.
